The Arzuros is equally weak to both Fire and Ice elements, but the greatest weapon you can use against it is a jar full of honey. It has no elemental powers, unless 'bear' is an element and nobody told me. Like the Great Izuchi, the Arzuros is a bit more agile than it first appears, but its attacks are still predictably bear-like. Play with me sesame intro vocals6/12/2023 ![]() ![]() Regina Spektor first worked with showrunner Jenji Kohan when she covered the Weeds theme song, “Little Boxes,” during the second season of that show. But Fox and Williams’ hooky theme song that made “love exciting and new” had a lot to do with it. ![]() We thought, ‘Who’s going to watch a series about a cruise ship?’” Decades later, it’s still unclear how a comedy-drama about a cruise ship became an era-defining hit. “We honestly didn’t think it was going to last six weeks. “Charlie Fox gave me this melody, said that it was a new series called The Love Boat, it was about a cruise ship,” lyricist Paul Williams, who wrote the song with composer Fox, told Songfacts in 2007. “The love boat! Soon we’ll be making another run!” sings adult-pop stalwart Jack Jones on this vintage slice of Seventies disco cheese. Image Credit: ABC Photo Archives/Disney General Entertainment Content/Getty Images Yet a convincing argument could be made that its opening credits - a montage of distinctly New York faces and images of strivers and hustlers in action, cut against the addictive beat of Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar” - are among the greatest ever featured on a channel with a long history of iconic intro sequences. No one would ever attempt to claim that this comedy about two buddies trying to break into the fashion business - an unofficial attempt at an East Coast Entourage - is among the great HBO shows of all time. With lyrics by Raposo, Jon Stone, and Bruce Hart, “Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street?” conjures up images of smiling kids running down the sidewalk on a sunny day - headed, in the words of Don Draper, to a place where they know they are loved. In addition to writing classic Sesame songs like “Bein’ Green,” “Sing,” and “C Is for Cookie” - that’s good enough for me - Raposo composed the jaunty, instantly recognizable theme song that helped lodge the show in the public consciousness. He wasn’t a big yellow bird or a furry blue monster, but Joe Raposo was as integral to the success of the children’s educational institution Sesame Street as any Muppet. This list - with many of the blurbs owing a debt to the wealth of theme song history in the book TV’s Greatest Hits by Jon Burlingame - is our attempt to explain why we chose these 100 over any or all of your favorites. family sitcoms got the nod and which ones didn’t.) Like any attempt to quantify art, there was ultimately a lot of gut feelings involved: On its own, Theme Song A is an objectively better piece of music than Theme Song B, but Theme Song B is a much more perfect match for its show. (There are still hurt feelings regarding which of ABC’s T.G.I.F. Then we considered two main factors: 1)How great is it as a song? 2)How well does it prepare you for the show that follows, in terms of mood and/or an explanation of the premise? Sometimes, one factor weighed more heavily than the other, and many bitter fights were fought. Apologies to The White Shadow, What’s Happening?, and many more that did not make the final list.) Some were written expressly for that show, while others were pre-existing songs given new life through their association with a particular series. (Honestly, the entire 100 could have been made up of shows from the Seventies. We then pared that down by looking for diversity in terms of style of music, style of show, and era. How did we figure this out, beyond just arguing about it over Slack, Zoom, ham radio, etc?įirst, we assembled a massive list of great songs from throughout the entire long history of TV. The best ones put you in the right mindset to watch each episode of your favorite, and can be just as entertaining in their own right as any great joke, monologue, or action sequence. Or maybe we should preemptively accept your thanks?ĭespite periodic attempts to contract or outright eliminate them, theme songs are a crucial part of the TV-watching experience. Long island medium6/12/2023 ![]() He had finally reached his big separation point from God when he involved himself in channeling. One example of channeling in the Bible we see is with Saul, a powerful king of Israel. We can see from Scripture that God sees these practices as not only sinful, but also without benefit. ![]() Leviticus 19:31 addresses this issue: “Do not turn to mediums or necromancers do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 20:6 says, “I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people.” Deuteronomy 18:12 says that consulting mediums or channeling the dead is detestable. Seeking advice from mediums, necromancers and fortune-tellers is forbidden. Scripture is clear that channeling and attempting to contact the dead are wrong. Is it wrong for Christians to turn to mediums? We can turn to the Bible for answers. Given these mediums often appear to be coming from a positive place, trying to connect people with those they’ve lost, many think how bad can talking to them be. Many people watching these shows or seek mediums out wonder if they can truly connect with deceased loved ones. According to Baylor University sociologist Christopher Bader, two-thirds of Americans have at least one paranormal belief. ![]() Mediums are more familiar to Americans than ever, thanks in part to shows like “Long Island Medium” and “Hollywood Medium” that many watch right in their living rooms. Commander shepard6/12/2023 ![]() In the meantime, perhaps a Mass Effect player could start a new playthrough of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition with a Shepard more directly modeled after George Clooney - fulfilling BioWare’s vision for the character during the early development stages of the first Mass Effectgame. As one of Mass Effect's Spectres, Commander Shepard has a tremendous amount of responsibility and autonomy throughout the Milky Way galaxy, but as the person seemingly destined to combat the threat of the Reaper invasion, Shepard has multiple life-altering. Along with many visual, technical, and quality-of-life upgrades, major design emphasis was put on unification across the series, perhaps best. However, the choice of Clooney as the inspiration for Shepard is still fitting given his charisma as a leading actor and action star - traits shared with Commander Shepard throughout the entire Mass Effect trilogy.įans could see Commander Shepard return to Mass Effect someday, as voice actors Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale have expressed interest in reprising their role in a future Mass Effect game like the upcoming, Unreal Engine-developed Mass Effect 5. Within all the moving parts of its complicated interstellar society, Mass Effect is ultimately the story of one person: Commander Shepard. One of the key new features in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is its expanded character customization options that allow players to design the look of their unique Commander Shepard in more detail. It's still amusing to note that George Clooney was the face that BioWare had in mind when creating Commander Shepard, as the standard Mark Vanderloo model doesn’t really have much in common with the famous actor at first glance. Of course, this George Clooney inspiration only applies to the default male Commander Shepard that players see when they start a new Mass Effect game from the original trilogy, as one of the series' hallmarks is the ability to customize Mass Effect's space-fairing Commandeer Shepard in any way the player sees fit. The drive to work just got a bit easier for some lucky NASA Langley employees. The Mass Effect Series is based on players taking control of Commander Shepard, and, like most RPGs, the player is given choices and customization options. Little devil inside narrator6/12/2023 He is able to observe the thoughts and motives of all the characters (although still within certain limits, as we’ll discover in a minute). This narrative functions on the idea that the author/narrator already knows how the story will end. Omniscient POVĪs its name suggests, the omniscient POV is one that tells its story from the perspective of a narrator (usually–implicitly–the author himself) who “knows all and sees all.” This narrator is rarely characterized or explained, and readers accept this without ever wondering who is telling the story. ![]() Just to make sure we’re all on the same page, let’s start with a quick exploration of the differences between the four major types of POV used in narrative fiction. Today, we’re going to explore what makes the omniscient POV tick and how you can figure out if taking the chance on it is the right choice for your story. Perhaps you’re one of those authors who is considering an omniscient POV for your story, or perhaps you’re already wielding an omniscient POV and struggling to understand why you’re taking flak for it. Authors often struggle to maintain a consistent omniscient voice and figure out how the omniscient POV differs from random head-hopping (which dips in and out of multiple characters’ tight narratives without warning). But the omniscient POV can be challenging to get right. We definitely do still see a book here and there that uses it (usually in the literary genre). However, that isn’t to say the omniscient POV can’t be wielded effectively. Furthermore, because omniscient is a POV that has largely fallen into disuse, it can be a harder sell to agents and editors. I’ll admit this upfront: not a big fan of the technique–if only because there is so much more intimacy to be found in the tighter POVs of first-person and deep third-person. I have to admit, I always wince (just a little) whenever authors tell me they’re writing in omniscient. So what’s the problem with the omniscient POV? Why are so many authors confused about it? And why are so many editors delivering digital hand slaps because of it? ![]() Why All the Fuss About the Omniscient POV? Omniscient POVs have a grand tradition going back to the beginnings of literature, and it’s no wonder many authors default to omniscient POV, since this is the narrative voice in which most of us humans tend to verbally share stories. Some are astonished to learn there even is such a thing, much less that it’s frowned upon. Most of them are getting slapped on the hand by editors for using it. I get a lot emails from authors who are confused about omniscient POV. It will influence your readers’ perception of your characters. It will decide which scenes are included and which are not. POV will affect every single word choice. ![]() The point of view (or POV) in which you tell your story’s narrative is arguably the single most important decision you can make about your book. That's a lot of Stephen King! In past years, we've resisted giving authors more than one slot on the list (though we made an exception for Nora Roberts during the 2015 romance poll - and she's basically the Stephen King of romance.) In the end, we decided that since so much classic horror is in short story format, we would allow authors one novel and one short story if necessary.Writers don’t only have to decide which character’s point of view the story will be told in, they also have to figure out whether to then share that character’s narrative in first-person, third-person, second-person, or (*cue ominous rumbling*) omniscient POV. I'd be hiding under the bed shuddering without their help.Īnd a word about Stephen King: Out of almost 7,000 nominations you sent in, 1,023 of them were for the modern master of horror. Readers did nominate them, but the judges felt uncomfortable debating the inclusion of their own work - so it's up to me to tell you to find and read their excellent books! I personally, as a gigantic horror wuss, owe a debt of gratitude to this year's judges, particularly Hendrix, for their help writing summaries for all the list entries. One thing you won't see on the list is any work from this year's judges, Stephen Graham Jones, Ruthanna Emrys, Tananarive Due and Grady Hendrix. ![]() 100 Best Books Happy Ever After: 100 Swoon-Worthy Romances Chalice dungeon glyphs mini6/12/2023 You could always, of course, not clip in the tiles and be just fine although you loose some of the sturdiness that the clips bring. The safest opportunity to attack is just after it has performed a three-hit combo or slam attack but beware of attempting this later in the fight as its slam attacks create an electrical blast. It will attempt to knock the player down and immediately follow up with a slam attack, it will lunge at the player if they try to heal and will delay its combos in order to trick them into dodging early. The Abhorrent Beast is a very aggressive boss that will constantly close in on the player and uses a wide variety of attacks. It is possible to deplete 75% of its health with a full stock of knives. Poison Knives are very effective in this battle as the boss has very low poison resistance and can be poisoned with just one knife.
